## History

The Corabœuf family held the fief from the 11th to the 14th century. It then passed to the Salins family, who built a strong tower recorded in 1450: the keep, the gate tower and the corner towers date from this time. In 1478 the castle was dismantled on the orders of Louis XI. It was damaged again during the Wars of Religion, and rebuilt in the following decades.

The dates 1576 and 1587 are carved on two towers, with the arms of Catherine de Mypont, wife of Antoine de Salins. In 1763 the estate was bought by Jean-Baptiste Richard, who remodelled the east wing, laid out gardens and had his lands raised to a marquisate. Around 1860 the north wing was rebuilt in Gothic Revival style, with interiors designed by the architect Charles Suisse.

## Architecture

The square keep, about 18 metres high, links a north wing and an east wing set at a right angle. The north wing of 1860, by the architect Roidot-Errard, has mullioned windows and a slate roof, with salons of carved panelling and painted ceilings. A gate tower with traces of a drawbridge, a round dovecote and an 18th-century summer pavilion in the park complete the estate.
