## History

In 1726 Vivant Micault, from an old Pommard family, built the château and its winery buildings around a paved courtyard. A chapel dedicated to Saint Vivant was blessed in 1736. In 1763 Claude Marey bought the estate. Around 1789 his son Nicolas-Joseph sold the Micault château but kept the vines and cellars. In 1795 he married Émilie Monge, daughter of the scientist Gaspard Monge, and built a second château nearby.

The Marey-Monge family built the great wall around the Clos in 1812. In 1855 Jules Lavalle, in his classification of the wines of the Côte-d'Or, placed the Clos du château de Pommard among the first growths. The Laplanche family bought the estate in 1936, and in 1966 the psychoanalyst Jean Laplanche reunited it with the Micault château. The Giraud family followed in 2003, and Michael Baum and Julie Carabello in 2014.

## Architecture

The Micault château is a Régence house with a mansard roof of flat tiles. On the courtyard side, a central bay in dressed stone opens onto a stone perron. On the garden side, a triangular pediment carries a coat of arms, with carved busts and a stone balcony. A French garden lies across the rue Marey, and long vaulted cellars run beneath the paved courtyards.
