## History

Premeaux once had a fortified castle, which came to an end in 1769. The estate says it was destroyed by fire, while the local tourist office describes it as demolished. In the 19th century a new château was built on the site, reusing some of the old stones. It remains a private home at the centre of a working wine estate in the village.

The wine estate was built up over four generations from the early 20th century and passed from father to son. Arnaud Pelletier, the fifth generation, took over in 2003 after years in New Caledonia and a year at wine school. His father began converting the vines to organic farming, starting in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, and the whole estate is now certified organic.

## Architecture

The château is a 19th-century stone house in the village, built partly with material from the earlier fortress. Facing it is the Gîte Saint-Vincent, an outbuilding of the estate now let as a holiday house. The domaine works about 15 hectares across the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Côte de Nuits-Villages and Nuits-Saint-Georges appellations, including the premiers crus Clos des Argillières and Clos des Corvées-Pagets.

## Visiting

The estate welcomes wine lovers for tastings of its range, which includes around ten reds, six whites, a rosé and a crémant. It is a small family business, so contact the estate before you come. Premeaux-Prissey sits on the main road between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, which makes it an easy stop.

## Did you know?

Arnaud Pelletier was living in New Caledonia when a letter from his father asked him to come home, because his brothers did not want to take over the family estate.
