## History

The first château at Saulon was built in the 16th century and rebuilt at the end of the 17th century as a classical country house. Its owners describe it as halfway between a pleasure château and a family home in the country. Its rooms open onto a park crossed by the Sansfond river, on the edge of the flat, fertile plain that stretches from Dijon towards the Saône.

Today the estate is a hotel and restaurant, with rooms in the château itself and in two other buildings, the Pavillon and the Longère. Its restaurant is called Deux Rivières. The château also hosts weddings, family celebrations and business events, and its park of about 27 hectares is used for walks, cycling and an outdoor fitness trail. The team also organises seminars with activities in the park.

## Architecture

The château is a classical building of the 17th century surrounded by a large park, with views over the greenery and the Sansfond river. Inside, a winter garden, a library holding a collection of old books and a bar keep the feel of a private house. The estate also includes the Pavillon and the Longère, a long former farm building, both converted into guest rooms.

## Visiting

The château is a hotel and restaurant, so you can stay overnight, book a table at the Deux Rivières restaurant or come for brunch. The park is pleasant for a stroll before or after a meal. Saulon-la-Rue is a short drive south of Dijon. Book through the official website.

## Did you know?

Guests can browse a collection of old books in the château's library, and the park beyond is crossed by the Sansfond, a small river of the plain south of Dijon.
