## History

The festival has become an annual end-of-summer fixture in the Mâconnais-Tournugeois. Its 2026 anniversary edition put live, popular and shared music at its heart, with professional fanfares, amateur orchestras, bandstand concerts and dances, plus some fifteen circus and street-theatre companies.

It is run by Le Galpon, an arts venue at 17 rue des Granges in Tournus. The 2026 edition celebrated two anniversaries: 20 years of Impérial Kikiristan, the street-music company that founded Le Galpon, and 40 years of Jazz en Herbe, a course that since 1986 has given generations of musicians the urge to play together outdoors.

## What to expect

Shows run from afternoon until late at night in village squares and streets. There is a bar and food on site, and the atmosphere is that of a village fête with a strong programme. In 2026 the festival opened on Sunday 23 August in Ozenay, moved to Tournus on Wednesday 26 August and to Viré on the Thursday and Friday, then spent Saturday 29 August in Tournus before a last evening in Viré.

## Tips for the day

Most shows are pay-what-you-wish. Viré sits in the heart of the Viré-Clessé vineyard, so an afternoon of tasting can lead into the festival evening; with a driver, getting home after the last dance is simple. Tournus is under an hour from Beaune.
