# Festival Beethoven à Beaune

> Festival Beethoven à Beaune: a spring chamber music festival devoted to Beethoven, led by the cellist Sung-Won Yang.

Each spring the Festival Beethoven à Beaune invites international musicians to perform Beethoven's music in Beaune, under the artistic direction of the Korean cellist Sung-Won Yang. The 2027 edition is built around the idea of a testament, two hundred years after the composer's death.

## History

The South Korean cellist Sung-Won Yang directs the festival and invites soloists and ensembles from around the world. Concerts take place in some of Beaune's landmark venues, such as the Hôtel-Dieu and La Lanterne Magique. The 2026 edition was held from 23 to 26 April.

## What to expect

The 2027 programme opens with solo piano, continues with piano trios from the youthful Opus 1 to the Archduke Trio, then turns to string quartets, including the Serioso and the late Opus 135, and closes with Liszt's transcription of the Ninth Symphony for two pianos.

## Tips for the day

Tickets are sold online. Early April is a quiet, pleasant time in Beaune, with fewer visitors than in summer. Most concerts are held in the evening in the centre of town, so a driver can take you to dinner in a nearby village and bring you back in time.

## Did you know?

The 2027 festival marks 200 years since Beethoven's death and closes with Liszt's transcription of the Ninth Symphony for two pianos.
