# Foire internationale et gastronomique de Dijon

> Foire internationale et gastronomique de Dijon: Burgundy's great food fair, held every autumn in Dijon since 1921.

The Foire internationale et gastronomique de Dijon is one of France's major fairs and the largest popular event in Burgundy. Created in 1921, it fills Dijon's exhibition park each autumn, with a gastronomy hall, cooking demonstrations and tastings alongside stands for crafts, home and leisure. The 2026 edition is the 96th.

## History

Gaston Gérard, mayor of Dijon, founded the fair in 1921 to revive the old culinary traditions of Burgundy, its famous wines and the cuisine of its dukes. It quickly drew large crowds and the attention of the country's food writers. Gérard's name also lives on in poulet Gaston Gérard, a chicken dish with mustard, Comté and cream created by his wife in 1930.

## What to expect

Spend a few hours in the gastronomy hall, tasting regional produce and wine and watching chefs at work. Demonstrations, cooking contests and workshops let you pick up tricks of the trade from professionals, and each year a guest country brings its own specialities. About 450 exhibitors fill 24,000 square metres, and the fair stays open late on some evenings, when the food halls are at their liveliest.

## Tips for the day

The fair is held at the Parc des expositions et des congrès, on boulevard de Champagne, north-east of the city centre; the Auditorium and Poincaré stops of tram line T1 are a few minutes' walk away. Check opening times, late openings and prices on the fair's website before you go. Dijon's exhibition park is about 40 minutes from Beaune by the A31, and the streets around it are busy at weekends and on the 11 November holiday, so a private driver dropping you at the entrance is the calmer choice, especially after a few tastings in the gastronomy hall.

## Did you know?

Poulet Gaston Gérard was born in 1930 when the mayor's wife, cooking for the critic Curnonsky, is said to have spilled paprika and saved the dish with wine, mustard, cheese and cream.
