# Jazz Campus en Clunisois

> Jazz Campus en Clunisois: One of France's oldest jazz festivals, pairing a week of concerts with a jazz summer school.

Jazz Campus en Clunisois combines a festival of adventurous jazz with a summer school for young and amateur musicians. Around fifteen concerts take place in Cluny's historic places, including the abbey, the theatre, the abbey park and the Écuries Saint-Hugues.

## History

Created in 1977, the festival calls itself modest but tenacious, and counts among the two or three oldest in France. The 2026 edition was the 49th, and the organisers have announced that 2027 will celebrate the festival's fiftieth anniversary. It is run by the Jazz Campus en Clunisois association, formed around its founder and artistic director, Didier Levallet, and about thirty volunteers keep the festival village and its bar, the box office and the musicians' transfers going.

## What to expect

Evenings bring inventive contemporary jazz and improvised music, while by day the summer school runs orchestra classes, collective improvisation, vocal workshops and a brass band, whose students often surface in the town.

## Tips for the day

Tickets are sold online; the full price was 18 euros in 2026, and members of the association, with membership from 10 euros, could buy a festival pass for 100 euros (50 euros for students) covering every concert except the Saturday 22 August show at 9 pm. Tickets are also sold at the Cluny tourist office, 6 rue Mercière, open daily from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, and at the door while seats last, though many concerts sell out. The nearest stations are Mâcon-Loché TGV and Mâcon-Ville, and a greenway links Mâcon to Cluny for cyclists (27 km). Cluny is roughly an hour and a quarter from Beaune, and late finishes in August make a return with a driver the sensible choice.
