# Les Vinées Tonnerroises

> Les Vinées Tonnerroises: the wine fair of the Tonnerrois, held inside a vast 13th-century hospital.

Each spring the Vinées Tonnerroises fill the great hall of the Hôtel-Dieu of Tonnerre with wine. More than thirty growers pour wines from some thirty-six appellations, from Tonnerre and Épineuil to Chablis and the rest of Burgundy, alongside local food producers and craftspeople.

## History

The 2026 edition, held on 4 and 5 April, was the 33rd. It celebrated 20 years of the Bourgogne Tonnerre appellation and took as its figurehead the Chevalier d'Éon, diplomat and spy of Louis XV, born in Tonnerre in 1728.

The setting is the Hôtel-Dieu founded in 1293 by Marguerite of Burgundy. Its owner, the Centre Hospitalier du Tonnerrois, now holds a charity wine auction during the fair, with wines given by growers, to help pay for the upkeep of the building.

## What to expect

Buy the screen-printed glass and walk the length of the medieval hall from stand to stand, tasting whites and reds from Tonnerre, Épineuil and Chablis. The weekend adds masterclasses, cheese and wine pairings, guided walks through Tonnerre, music, cooperage demonstrations and activities for children.

## Tips for the day

In 2026 entry cost 2 euros and the tasting glass 6 euros online or 8 euros on the day. The car parks on rue de l'Hôpital are reserved, so the organisers suggest the free station car park, and trolleys are lent to carry cases of wine. Tonnerre is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Beaune, and with a driver nobody has to drive home, and your cases go straight into the car.

## Did you know?

The fair takes place in a hospital founded in 1293, said to be the longest medieval hospital in Europe.
