## History

The domaine traces its roots back to 1696, and the Monnier family has grown vines in Meursault for generations. Jean-Nicolas Monnier now runs the family estate, which picks its grapes by hand and weeds its vineyards by tractor and by hand.

Its 16 hectares cover 18 appellations, from Puligny-Montrachet through Meursault, Volnay and Pommard to Beaune, so a tasting gives a good view of the Côte de Beaune's range of terroirs. The domaine's pride is a monopole in Pommard, the Clos de Cîteaux, a premier cru within the Épenots.

## What you will see

In the caveau the family presents its production: whites from Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, reds from Volnay, Pommard and Beaune, and the Clos de Cîteaux. As independent growers who make and sell their own wine, the Monniers can explain the work behind each bottle, and the domaine also lists visits of its vines and winery.

## Planning your visit

Allow 30 minutes to an hour. The domaine has no website, so call ahead to check the caveau's opening hours or to arrange a visit. The caveau is on the town hall square, in the heart of Meursault, a few steps from the Église Saint-Nicolas and close to the Château de Meursault.

## Did you know?

The caveau looks onto the town hall square of Meursault, where the town hall played the German Kommandantur in La Grande Vadrouille in 1966.
