Domaine Michel Lahaye is a family estate on the place de l'Église in Pommard, run by Dominique Lahaye and his son Benoît. It farms about 5.5 hectares in Pommard, Meursault and Beaune and does all the work itself, from the vines to the cellar. The family receives visitors by appointment in a tasting room set up in the estate's former stable.

## History

The domaine dates its start to 1970. Dominique Lahaye, born into a family of growers, set up on his own in 1980, and in 1987 he and his wife Marie-José moved into the old family house in Pommard. Their son Benoît joined them in 2005.

The estate handles all the vineyard work, the winemaking and the ageing itself, which, it says, gives its wines their own character while keeping the typical style of each climat. It has been certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since the 2018 vintage. The wines are aged in oak barrels, mostly for 15 to 18 months.

## What you will see

Tastings take place around a large table in the old stable, which seats groups of 20 to 30. The family explains how it works and what makes each wine and the region distinct, and pours a range from regional Bourgogne to villages and premiers crus, such as Pommard Les Arvelets and Meursault Les Charmes, from several vintages while stock lasts. The range also includes a rosé, a crémant and traditional Burgundy spirits.

## Planning your visit

Allow about an hour. Visits and tastings are by appointment, and the family asks visitors to get in touch before coming; in winter, booking ahead means a fire is lit in the tasting room. The domaine is on the church square in the centre of Pommard, a short walk from the Château de Pommard.

## Did you know?

The tasting room was once the domaine's stable, and in winter the family lights a log fire for visitors who book ahead.
