## History

The site takes its name from the company of arquebusiers, the city's marksmen, whose early 17th-century building still stands here. The building and its gardens, including the old shooting ground and the botanical garden, have been listed as a historic monument since 1964. The natural history museum was founded in 1836 by the naturalist Léonard Nodot and occupies the old arquebusiers' building.

The Hubert Curien planetarium, a fully digital dome with about 60 seats, opened in 2005. For some years the whole site was called the Jardin des sciences, before it returned to its historic name. The garden has since been renewed with a trail of food plants and grape varieties, a nod to Dijon's place at the start of the Route des Grands Crus.

## What you will see

Stroll through the botanical beds, the rose garden and the arboretum with its stream, past a pond with ducks, a rock garden and flowering meadows. The new trail of flavours shows edible plants from around the world and more than 70 grape varieties on some 400 vines. The museum explains biodiversity with specimens, fossils and models, while planetarium shows fill a 360-degree dome.

## Planning your visit

The garden is a public park close to Dijon-Ville station and a short walk from the Cité de la gastronomie. The museum is free and closed on Tuesdays. Planetarium shows run at set times, several aimed at children. Temporary exhibitions change through the year. Check the official website for opening times of the garden, museum and planetarium.

## Did you know?

The garden's vines, representing more than 70 grape varieties, grow just a few hundred metres from the starting point of the Route des Grands Crus.
