## History

The cooperative was founded in 1929 by growers from three villages, Mancey, Royer and Vers, with Victor Chapuis as its first president, and its winery was built at Dulphey, a hamlet of Mancey. The members pooled their work and equipment to make and sell their wine together. In 1979 the Mâcon-Mancey appellation was recognised, which pushed the cooperative to promote its own wines.

In 1981 Mancey joined independent growers from the Côte-d'Or in a shared company to sell wines from all over Burgundy, and in 1984 it bought a former service station on the old Route Nationale 6 in Tournus as a shop. That site was rebuilt as a visitor centre, opened in 2011, whose architecture echoes the Romanesque abbey of Saint-Philibert, a nod to the monks who spread winegrowing around Tournus. Today some fifty growers farm about 120 hectares.

## What you will see

Start with the free trail, where models explain geology, grape varieties, the vine's year, winemaking, Crémant de Bourgogne and food pairings. In the sensory area, test your nose and eyes on 12 wine aromas, 12 colours and 4 textures. Then taste at the bar: Mâcon and Mâcon-Mancey whites from chardonnay and reds from gamay, Bourgogne Pinot Noir and crémant, including the Les Cadoles range. The shop also sells wines from partner estates across Burgundy.

## Planning your visit

The shop opens every day except 1 January and 25 December, with shorter hours on Sundays and public holidays. The trail is free; in 2026 a walk-in formula with four wines and a small savoury plate cost €8, and commented tastings of six wines with a board of local specialities, from €12, were booked 48 hours ahead for at least four people, Monday to Saturday. The cellar stands on the D906 just north of Tournus, so it combines easily with the abbey of Saint-Philibert.

## Did you know?

The Les Cadoles wines take their name from the cadoles, the small dry-stone shelters that growers once built among the vines around Mancey.
