About the event

Musiques en Tonnerrois is a festival of chamber music and new creation that travels around the Tonnerrois for three days at the end of August. Concerts, open rehearsals, talks and a concert walk move from Tonnerre's covered market to the Château de Maulnes and village churches.

What to expect

Mornings bring open rehearsals with free entry, afternoons a talk, a family concert or a concert walk from a country chapel, and evenings the main concerts, followed by lighter late-night shows. The day at the Renaissance Château de Maulnes is a highlight.

History

The festival is led by the flautist Sophie Deshayes as artistic director. Alongside the chamber repertoire it presents new works, and since it began it has built up a body of music linked to the Tonnerrois. The 2026 edition packed 14 events into three days.

Each day has its own setting. In 2026 the festival opened in Tonnerre, spent a day at the Château de Maulnes at Cruzy-le-Châtel with a shared picnic, and closed in the villages of Mélisey and Rugny.

Tips for the day

In 2026 a three-day pass cost 65 euros and an evening concert 20 euros, while the rehearsals, the talk and the concert walk were free. The venues are spread across the countryside, so a driver is especially useful; Tonnerre is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Beaune.
