About the event

Each autumn, on the weekend of the fourth Sunday in October, the streets of Chablis fill with growers, visitors and wine lovers for the Fête des Vins. Around fifty producers, 48 of them on the official 2026 list, pour their wines in the town centre, from Petit Chablis to grand cru. The 2026 edition is the 78th.

What to expect

With a tasting glass in hand, stroll from stand to stand, meeting growers and tasting across the appellations, from Petit Chablis to grand cru. Stalls sell local food and regional specialities. The 2026 programme also includes a guest wine region, Pic Saint-Loup, sensory workshops run by the Cité des Climats, a glass-engraving stand, children's activities and a small tourist train through the vineyards. Music keeps the town lively into the evening.

History

The festival celebrates the new vintage and is also a time to open older bottles and welcome guests. Each year a godmother and a godfather inaugurate the new vintage and become ambassadors for Chablis wines. The programme includes the parade of the wine brotherhood of the Piliers Chablisiens and its swearing-in ceremony.

Since 2019 the Marathon de Chablis has been run through the vineyards on the Saturday of the festival, with shorter courses for young and old. In 2026 a local history society also shows an exhibition on the story of the town's wine festivals.

Tips for the day

Entry is free and the tasting glass costs 7 euros. The stands, along boulevard du Docteur Tacussel and place Lafayette, open on Saturday from 12.30 pm to 6 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The Saturday adds the marathon and a concert from 6 pm, while on Sunday the Piliers Chablisiens parade at 10.30 am. Streets in the centre are busy all weekend, so arrive early. Chablis is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Beaune by the A6 motorway, and a private driver removes any worry about tasting and driving.
