The simplest Burgundy wine day from Paris is the TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Dijon-Ville, 1 h 35 to 1 h 40, then a licensed private driver (French VTC) for a half day of 4 hours at €290 or a full day of 8 hours at €560 per car, for one to four guests, plus train tickets. Going by car is the harder choice: Beaune is about 310 km and 3 h 15 from central Paris, so a same-day round trip is about 6 h 30 on the road, and a private transfer is €750 per car one way; if you can, stay a night in Beaune.

In short

  • Paris to Dijon-Ville by TGV takes about 1 h 35 to 1 h 40; with the TER on to Beaune, the best journeys take 2 h 06 to 2 h 20 and the average is just over 3 hours.
  • By road Beaune is about 310 km and 3 h 15 from central Paris, so a same-day round trip is about 6 h 30 at the wheel.
  • Train plus driver: €290 (4 hours) or €560 (8 hours) per car from Beaune station, plus train tickets; or your driver meets the TGV at Dijon-Ville for €120 each way.
  • A private transfer from Paris is €750 per car one way, for one to four guests, tolls included.

Can you do a Burgundy wine day from Paris in one day?

Yes, by train: the TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon reaches Dijon-Ville in 1 h 35 to 1 h 40, and the wine road south from there runs through Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges to Beaune, so an early train leaves several hours among the domaines.

By road it is a different day: Beaune is about 310 km from Paris, about 3 h 15 from the centre and 3 h 45 from Charles de Gaulle by private transfer, so a return trip in one day adds about 6 h 30 of driving to your tastings, and heavy traffic leaving Paris at peak times can add more.

How long is the train from Paris, and what does it cost?

TGVs cover Paris Gare de Lyon to Dijon-Ville in about 1 h 35 to 1 h 40, and a TER regional train takes you on to Beaune in 18 to 30 minutes, about 44 a day. The best combinations take 2 h 06 to 2 h 20 in all, and the average across all services is just over 3 hours.

SNCF Connect lists around 18 journeys a day from Paris to Beaune, the first leaving Paris at about 6.50. Fares change with demand: Paris to Beaune is advertised from about €26 one way in second class, but most tickets cost more, especially close to the date, and the TER from Dijon to Beaune is €13. Tickets usually go on sale several months ahead. Check your own date and the last train home on SNCF Connect, as weekend and holiday services differ and timetables change each December.

Which is better: a driver at Dijon, a driver at Beaune or a transfer from Paris?

With heavy luggage or four guests the car from your door is the simplest; one or two people travelling light do better with the TGV to Dijon. The table shows what each costs per car, for one to four guests.

What does a day from Paris look like?

The TGV sets the day, so leave early. The plan below follows the durations above rather than a timetable: check the departures on SNCF Connect.

  • Morning: an early TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Dijon-Ville (1 h 35 to 1 h 40), where your driver can meet you, or a TER on to Beaune station (18 to 30 minutes).
  • First tasting: from Dijon the slower wine road runs through Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges along the Route des Grands Crus, and turns the drive into a first look at the vineyards.
  • Midday: lunch in a village restaurant, reserved on request and paid by you.
  • Afternoon: a second and third domaine, for example in Pommard or Meursault; a full day of 8 hours holds two to four.
  • Evening: back to Beaune station or, about 35 minutes on, to Dijon-Ville for your train to Paris. Check the last departure on SNCF Connect before you book the driver.

Should you stay a night in Beaune instead?

If you can, yes: a night in Beaune turns a rushed day into two relaxed half days and gives you the evening in town. Two half days cost €580 per car.

A weekend in Burgundy from Paris plans it for you: the arrival from Paris by car or by TGV to Dijon with a short transfer, the Hôtel-Dieu, a starred dinner in Pommard and a tasting in Meursault. A one-way transfer from Paris is €750 per car. Start on a Saturday, when family domaines are open.

What should you know before booking?

Book the domaines ahead, since most family estates receive visitors by appointment only; we make the appointments for you free of charge.

  • Tastings are paid directly to each domaine: count about €15 to €35 per person per visit.
  • Sundays and public holidays are harder: family domaines often close and trains are fewer, while Beaune houses such as the Marché aux Vins open every day.
  • Beaune is busiest from May to mid-October, and weekends such as the Hospices de Beaune wine sale book out weeks ahead.
  • The driver speaks French, English, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.
