Day by day

Beaune is about 1 h 40 from Lyon Part-Dieu by direct TER, with roughly one train an hour, so a day among the domaines needs no car of your own. Take a morning train and your driver meets you at Beaune station for a half or a full wine day, or let the driver collect you in Lyon and bring you back in the evening, your cases of wine in the boot. The driver helps you choose and book the domaines; you pay the tastings to them directly.

Good to know

  • Leave early: with about 3 h 30 of travel in the day, eight hours among the domaines is the most that fits.
  • Keep your TER ticket: it gives a reduced price at the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune and at the Château du Clos de Vougeot.
  • Family domaines often close on Sundays and trains are fewer: a weekday or a Saturday works best.

Travellers staying in Lyon with a free day and no car. A first taste of Burgundy: reds in Pommard and Volnay, whites in Meursault. Four guests who would rather not carry their wine on the train (the door-to-door plan).
