About the place

Cave de Vinzelles-LochéCave de Vinzelles-LochéCave de Vinzelles-LochéCave de Vinzelles-Loché

The Cave de Vinzelles-Loché was founded in 1929 by the growers of two neighbouring villages, Vinzelles and Loché, just south of Mâcon. It makes wines from the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais, and its shop is the place to taste Pouilly-Vinzelles and Pouilly-Loché side by side with Pouilly-Fuissé. The cellar sits among the vines, three minutes by car from the Mâcon-Loché TGV station.

What you will see

In the shop, the team guides you through the range: white wines from chardonnay, from Mâcon-Villages and Saint-Véran to Pouilly-Vinzelles, Pouilly-Loché and Pouilly-Fuissé, crémants with a touch of gamay, and red Beaujolais crus. Tasting several Pouilly wines side by side shows how the soil of each village changes the chardonnay. The staff also suggest places to visit in southern Burgundy, and the cellar has its own restaurant serving local dishes.

History

In 1929 the growers of Vinzelles and Loché joined forces to pool their skills and make and sell their wine together, and growers from many nearby villages have joined them since. Grapes are sorted by appellation, climat and lieu-dit, then vinified, stored, bottled and sold from the cooperative's winery.

The cooperative is certified High Environmental Value and ISO 22000. After premier crus were recognised in the Pouilly appellations, it set out to offer them, and its first Pouilly-Fuissé premier cru went on sale at the shop on 15 October 2022. It also makes Beaujolais crus such as Moulin-à-Vent, Chénas and Juliénas.
