Domaine Luquet stands in the centre of Fuissé, the village that gave its name to Pouilly-Fuissé, 7 kilometres from Mâcon. The same family has made wine here for six generations, now on about 30 hectares in eight villages. Its tasting cellar opens on weekdays and Saturdays, a simple way to taste Pouilly-Fuissé with the people who make it.

What you will see

In the cellar in the village, the family pours the range: Pouilly-Fuissé from Fuissé and Solutré-Pouilly, Pouilly-Loché, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages from the Clos de Condemine and from Cortevaix in the Clunisois, Crémant de Bourgogne and a Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Some wines are made in stainless-steel tanks and others in oak barrels, and tasting both shows the difference. The oldest Pouilly-Fuissé vines are more than 55 years old.

History

Winegrowing entered the family with Benoît Luquet (1847–1905), a grower in Fuissé, and Jacques Rollin (1851–1933), a landowner. Jean Luquet enlarged the estate, and his son Maurice, who set up on his own in 1938, extended it in Pouilly-Fuissé and was the first to export the family's wines, through French embassies abroad. In 1966 Roger Luquet and his wife Renée took over 4.7 hectares, and from 1972 they bottled their whole harvest.

The estate grew into Saint-Véran in 1972 and Mâcon-Villages in 1983, reaching 12 hectares in 1992, by which time Roger's children Christine and Patrick had joined. The next generation, Kévin and Loïc, arrived in 2014 and 2016, and in 2017 the Domaine Luquet Roger became the Domaine Luquet Depuis 1878. It now produces some 240,000 bottles a year, 60 per cent of them exported, and has been certified High Environmental Value since 2019.
