About the place
At Romanèche-Thorins, where the Mâconnais meets the Beaujolais, the Hameau Duboeuf presents itself as the first theme park devoted to the vine and wine in Europe. Around fifteen themed rooms, films, a simulated flight over the vineyards and a working winery tell the story of wine, ending with a tasting.
What you will see
The tour starts in a hall recreating a railway station of 1900, then moves through rooms on 2,000 years of wine trades, a collection of more than 3,000 old tools and objects, early advertising posters and a reconstructed Lyon bistro. A dynamic cinema flies you over the Beaujolais and the Mâconnais. From mid-April, in the warmer months, a little train also takes you to the winery and to the garden, with its pedal cars and mini golf.
History
Georges Duboeuf, born in 1933 at Crêches-sur-Saône into a family of winegrowers, built a wine business known worldwide for its Beaujolais. In 1993 he opened the Hameau du Vin in the former railway station of Romanèche-Thorins, as a museum of vine growing and winemaking with a shop. He died in 2020, and the park remains part of the family wine business he founded.
The site has grown over the years. The Duboeuf winery, with 150 stainless steel vats and six oak vats, opened to visitors in July 2003. A garden among the vines presents the aromas of wine in six themed plots. Since 2023 the old station has hosted L'Impérial, an immersive show set around a Napoleon III railway carriage, in which objects from the collection come to life.

Tips for your visit
Allow half a day. The park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and for a winter break in January, and the garden and winery open from mid-April; check the official website for opening times. Romanèche-Thorins has its own railway halt, and it combines well with the Roche de Solutré and the Pouilly-Fuissé villages. The tasting at the end includes crus of the Beaujolais and the Mâconnais.
