What you will see
At the Lugny shop, the team pours wines from across the range, from Mâcon-Villages and single-vineyard Mâcon-Lugny cuvées such as Les Charmes, Les Beluses and La Carte to Crémant de Bourgogne. Marked trails start from the shop and climb into the vineyards and onto the Charmes plateau, with panels on the vine and the landscape. Guided electric-scooter rides through the vines, lasting one to two hours, are run with a local partner.
History
Wines from Lugny's slopes were already known in the 18th century. The cooperative was founded on 30 January 1927 by 116 growers, the second in the Mâconnais after Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé, and three years later it had 180 members. The two cooperatives merged in 1966 while keeping both sites, and in 1994 the Cave de Chardonnay joined them.
Today each of the three wineries has its role: Chardonnay makes the sparkling wines, Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé the reds, and Lugny the whites, as well as the bottling and shipping of the whole range. The cooperative makes some 20 Burgundy appellations and sells in 21 countries; it was among the first to sell Mâcon wine in the United States and Britain, some forty years ago. It follows the Vignerons en Développement Durable programme, and in 2026 it marked its centenary with a season of events.
