About the event

Chardonnay Day began as an online celebration of the grape, but in the Mâconnais village of Chardonnay it is a real party. Growers of the Mâcon-Chardonnay appellation gather on the church square to pour their wines, with music and food until late.

What to expect

From 4pm the church square fills with stands: in 2026, thirteen estates poured Mâconnais wines, with gyropod rides through the vines, craft stalls, roaming organists, a wine bar, food and a concert.

History

The international Chardonnay Day was created in California as a social-media event. Since 2015 the producers of Mâcon-Chardonnay and their partners have invited visitors to celebrate it where the grape's name comes from, and the tenth anniversary was marked in 2025.

Tips for the day

Chardonnay is a small village about an hour's drive from Beaune, with limited parking on a busy evening. Being dropped at the square and collected after the concert is the relaxed way to do it. Check the local tourist office for the year's date and programme.
