About the event
The Printemps du Viré-Clessé is a generalised open-cellar weekend: the growers of this white-wine appellation between Mâcon and Tournus welcome visitors in their own cellars, with music, food and games in the two villages.
What to expect
The open-door principle extends to the whole appellation. Visitors pick up the programme and a glass, then move from cellar to cellar, tasting and talking with the growers, with music, food stops, aroma workshops and food-and-wine pairings along the way.
History
The first Printemps was held in 1999, the year the Viré-Clessé appellation was created. Since then the growers have opened their doors on the third weekend of April in most years, and the event now draws more than 3,000 visitors, many of them regulars.

Tips for the day
Tasting is by a glass bought on arrival; check the price in the year's programme. The villages are about an hour from Beaune by the A6, and with a driver the group can follow the cellars rather than the car park.
