About the restaurant
Maison Doucet is a two-Michelin-star restaurant and hotel in Charolles, the market town that gave its name to Charolais cattle, about 1 hour 30 minutes from Beaune. Frédéric Doucet, who grew up in the house, won his second star in March 2026, fourteen years after the first. Go for cooking that tells you exactly where you are.
The story
The house was his parents' hotel-restaurant, the Hôtel de la Poste, where Daniel Doucet cooked and where both Cédric Burtin and Yohann Chapuis learnt their trade. Frédéric trained at the Grenoble hotel school, then with Pierre Orsi and Paul Bocuse in Lyon and with the Troisgros family in Roanne, came home at 24 and bought the business in 2007 when his parents retired.
A first star followed in 2012. Maison Doucet is now a five-star Relais & Châteaux hotel with fifteen rooms and suites, a spa and a bistro on the quay, and the second star in the 2026 guide gave Saône-et-Loire its second two-star table.
The cooking
Doucet buys around nine tenths of his produce from Burgundian suppliers within 100 kilometres, and his menus read like a map of the Charolais and Brionnais: Charolais beef in several forms, frogs, crayfish, pike, Bresse poultry and Morvan hazelnuts. The technique is classical and exact, the flavours clean and direct. One tasting menu follows the local beef from start to finish, another explores the wider region, and the wine pairings mix great Burgundy names with bottles from the Loire and the Rhône.
Your evening
How the evening works
- 1Book your table
Directly with the restaurant. Weekends, the harvest and the Hospices de Beaune auction in November fill up weeks ahead.
- 2Book the car
Choose the restaurant on our booking page: pickup at your hotel at the time you like, and a fixed price for the return trip.
- 3Back to your hotel
Your driver waits nearby while you dine, up to 3 hours, then drives you home. Nobody has to drive.
Tips for your visit
Charolles is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Beaune by road. The weekday menu costs €90 and is not served on Friday evening or at weekends; the tasting menus cost €190 and €225, with pairings available. Outside July and August the restaurant opens from Wednesday lunch to Sunday lunch, except Thursday lunch, with extra evenings in summer. Reserve ahead for weekends. Given the distance, a private driver makes the return after a pairing effortless, or you can stay in one of the house's rooms.
