About the event
On the last Saturday of October, Châtillon-sur-Seine holds the Fête de la Truffe impériale, a day devoted to the Burgundy truffle. There is a market of truffles and local produce, demonstrations of truffle hunting, cooking contests for the public and for professionals, and tastings of regional specialities.
What to expect
Watch trained dogs track down truffles, follow the cooking contests and browse the market for truffles and regional produce. It is an easy way to see, smell and taste the Burgundy truffle in its season, in a town better known for the Trésor de Vix.
History
The imperial name recalls a truffle meal prepared for Napoleon when he passed through Châtillon in 1805, as a friend of Marshal Marmont. Châtillon has held the label Ville impériale since 2020, and the festival draws on that history.

Tips for the day
The date follows the usual rule, but check the tourist office's programme before travelling, as truffle supply varies from year to year. Châtillon is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Beaune; a driver lets you pair the fête with the Trésor de Vix and a Crémant tasting in the Châtillonnais.
