About the event
The Marathon de Chablis sends runners through the vineyards and wine villages around Chablis on the Saturday of the town's wine festival. Alongside the full marathon there are a half marathon, a 14 km race, walks and children's races. The 2026 marathon starts at 8.30 am.
What to expect
The marathon starts and finishes at the Pâtis, in Chablis, and climbs about 400 metres in total. It crosses the grand cru vineyards and loops through Fontenay-près-Chablis, Poinchy, Beine, La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne, Villy, Maligny and the premier cru of Fourchaume. Near Fyé comes the steepest test, nicknamed the Wall of the Marathon, before runners descend and return past the Collégiale Saint-Martin to the finish. Spectators can cheer in town and then stay for the festival.
History
The race was first run in 2019 and has become part of the Fête des Vins weekend. It is billed as a festive wine marathon: runners are encouraged to come in costume, and the stops along the course serve Chablis and local produce as well as the usual food and water.
It has grown quickly. More than 4,000 runners had registered for 2026, and the half marathon and the walks were full well before race day. In 2025, 46 per cent of participants were women, and the organisers are aiming for parity.

Tips for the day
Register early on the official website, as several races sell out months ahead. Marathon runners must carry their own cup, because none are handed out at the twelve refreshment stops, and the finish closes at 4 pm. Chablis is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Beaune; a driver can drop runners at the start before 8 am and collect them after a well-earned glass at the finish.
