About the event
Every winter the people of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain set up nativity scenes in their windows, and the whole village becomes a Christmas trail. About ninety lit windows can be seen each evening from late November to early January.
What to expect
Walk the lanes after dark and look up at the windows: the scenes are artistic, childlike, handmade, traditional, modern or abstract, and come from all over the world, as varied as the villagers who make them. In mid-December the village also holds a Christmas market, on 12 and 13 December in 2026.
History
The village association Flavigny Animations held its first exhibition in 2009, on the initiative of Carole Drogoul and Bruno Cogourdant, who were inspired by Poffabro, a village north of Venice. The first edition showed 30 nativity scenes; today there are about 90.
Since 2016 the theme has been widened to 'crèches et féerie de Noël'. The organisers aim to renew about 80 per cent of the displays every year, so returning visitors always find something new.

Tips for the day
The windows are lit every evening from 4.30 pm to 9 pm, so plan a late-afternoon visit, perhaps after the Anis factory. Wear good shoes, as the streets are steep and cobbled in places. Flavigny is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Beaune, and a driver makes the dark winter road home an easy one.
