About the place
Domaine Boyer-Martenot is a family estate on the place de l'Europe in Meursault, built up over four generations since 1917. It farms about 10.5 hectares, mostly in Meursault, with vines in Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses and Pommard. Its tasting cellar is open on weekdays all year, and its vaulted cellars can be visited by appointment.
What you will see
In the tasting cellar, a presentation of Burgundy's climats goes with a tasting of at least six wines. The commented cellar visit, by appointment, takes you under vaults of Burgundy limestone to see how the wines are aged. The domaine also holds two events a year: the Show Vin on the first Saturday of July, with growers from other French regions and a food market, and Jazz en Cave, with a tasting and a jazz concert in the winery, on the Saturday of the Hospices de Beaune wine sale.
History
The story begins in 1917, when Lucie Boyer, widowed young, started making her own wine and turned an estate that sold its grapes into one that bottled its wine. Her son André Boyer married Marie-Cécile Martenot, who brought vines in Meursault and Pommard, and Domaine Boyer-Martenot was born of their union. The couple expanded production and began to export.
Today the brother and sister Vincent and Sylvie Boyer run the domaine. Vincent makes the wines in the cellar, while Sylvie, who came back in 2018 after years abroad, looks after the vines, which are farmed sustainably with much of the work done by hand. The range runs from regional Bourgogne to premiers crus, in white and red.
