About the place
The Clos Saint-Louis is a family domaine in Fixin, 8 kilometres south of Dijon, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits. Its 16 hectares lie close to the village, across the first four village appellations of the northern Côte de Nuits. Visitors can follow the work from vine to cellar and finish with a tasting in a traditional Burgundy cellar.
What you will see
The visit follows the year's work from the vineyard to the cellar, then ends with a tasting of the domaine's wines in a vaulted cellar. The grapes are picked by hand, fully destemmed and given a cold soak, and the wines age for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels before being bottled at the estate. Philippe Bernard was made a Chevalier du Tastevin in 2011.
History
Edmond Bernard founded the domaine, which passed to Maurice, then to Charles. Charles's son Philippe, an oenologist, took over in 1995 and, with his wife Martine, began bottling at the estate and welcoming visitors. Their daughter Virginie took the reins in 2026 as the fifth generation, working alongside her father.
The domaine farms only plots close to home, from the Rente Giron at Dijon to Les Etelois at Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Marsannay, Fixin, Côte de Nuits-Villages and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations. It grows Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté, makes about 60,000 bottles a year and is certified Terra Vitis for sustainable farming. Its single-vineyard wines include the Fixin Entre Deux Velles, in the heart of the village, and the Fixin L'Olivier, high on the slope.
