About the place
Domaine Gérard Quivy is a family estate in the heart of old Gevrey-Chambertin, at 7 rue Gaston Roupnel. It occupies an 18th-century mansion with its own cellars, vat house and outbuildings, listed as a historic monument. Among its vineyards are two grands crus, Chapelle-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin.
What you will see
Tastings take place in the large reception room of the house, where a glass floor lets you look down into the cellars. The domaine's range runs from Bourgogne rouge and Côte de Nuits-Villages to village Gevrey-Chambertin from hillside sites such as Les Evocelles, En Champs and Les Journeaux, the premier cru Les Corbeaux and the two grands crus.
History
The house was built between 1710 and 1715 for Chifflot, a counsellor at the Chamber of Accounts in Dijon. It is typical of the wine estates that wealthy Dijon families built in the villages of the Côte in the 17th and 18th centuries. A master's house with a mansard roof and a horseshoe staircase stands on the north side, and two outbuildings with vaulted cellars frame the courtyard.
The estate later belonged to the Jomard family, owners of plots in Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, then from about 1880 to the Thomas-Bassot family, before it was sold around 1980. It is now the seat of the Quivy family domaine. The buildings, kept in their original state, were listed as a historic monument in 2015.
