About the place

At Brochon, between Dijon and Gevrey-Chambertin, the Gaugry dairy makes Burgundy's great washed-rind cheeses, including Époisses and Ami du Chambertin. Its site is being enlarged, and factory visits are paused until a new visitor space opens. The shop stays open, with the dairy's own cheeses among more than 200 on offer.

What you will see

For now, the visit is a shop stop rather than a factory tour. The temporary shop, behind the production site, sells the dairy's Époisses, Ami du Chambertin, Soumaintrain and other cheeses, along with regional products such as gingerbread, crème de cassis and Dijon mustard. Staff will advise you, and cheese platters can be prepared to order for a picnic or a gift.

History

Gaugry has made cheese since 1946 and settled at the Laiterie de la Côte in Brochon. The dairy created Ami du Chambertin, named after the growers of Gevrey-Chambertin who liked to eat it with their wine. Following demand, it also began to make Époisses, which became a protected appellation in 1991. The Lincet family of cheesemakers took over the dairy in 2018.

Work on a large extension began in March 2025 and is due to finish in 2027. The site will double in size, and a new visitor space called La Laiterie de la Côte is planned, with a sensory gallery that follows milk as it becomes cheese, a guided tasting area and a shop. Until then, production continues and a temporary shop welcomes visitors.

Planning your visit

Tips for your visit

Access to the temporary shop is from the main road, at the junction by the Super U supermarket. Factory visits are suspended during the works, and the dairy plans to reopen them in summer 2027. The temporary shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday. Washed-rind cheeses are strong and travel poorly in a warm car, so ask for good wrapping. Check the official website for opening times.
