About the event
Each April the motor sport association of the Yonne runs a hill climb on the road out of Irancy. Competition cars and historic vehicles take turns on a short course between vines and cherry orchards, which are usually in flower at this time of year.
What to expect
The course follows the D38 as it climbs out of the village, over 1,650 metres at an average gradient of 5.7 per cent. Saturday afternoon is given to practice. On Sunday morning drivers make their timed practice runs before the race itself, which starts late in the morning and is decided over four climbs.
History
The 2026 race, held on 18 and 19 April, was the 32nd edition. It counts towards the Coupe de France de la Montagne, the French hill-climb cup, and is open both to modern competition cars and to historic vehicles.
Irancy's cherry orchards go back to the years after phylloxera, when growers planted fruit trees on the slopes, and they remain part of the village's landscape.

Tips for the day
Follow the organisers' instructions on spectator areas, and expect the road to be closed while the event runs. Irancy is about 1 hour 35 minutes from Beaune; a driver can drop you close to the course and collect you later, so the day can end with a tasting in the village.
