About the event
At the end of January, Coulanges-la-Vineuse celebrates Saint Vincent, patron saint of wine growers, with a day of ceremony, parade and tastings. The young people of the village organise it, and it is the moment to taste the new vintage of the local appellation in a festive, musical atmosphere.
What to expect
The day opens with a mass at the church of Saint-Christophe at 9.30 am. At 11 am a parade winds through streets decorated for the feast, and the organisers hand out free mulled wine. From midday a reception in the village hall pairs tastings with cheese and charcuterie, and through the afternoon all the growers of the appellation pour their wines.
History
Saint Vincent's feast falls on 22 January, and wine villages across Burgundy honour him in the depths of winter. In Coulanges the celebration is a long-standing tradition, kept alive by the Comité de Saint-Vincent and by the village youth.
Coulanges-la-Vineuse lies a few kilometres west of Irancy, and its wines carry their own name, Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse.
