About the event

Once a year, the old village of Chenôve, just south of Dijon, turns medieval for a weekend. The enormous presses of the dukes of Burgundy are set to work, visitors taste bourru, the freshly pressed grape juice, and craftspeople and performers in costume fill the lanes.

What to expect

Watch the presses and a mobile press at work, taste bourru and Chenôve wines, and wander among falconers, archers, blacksmiths, dyers and other crafts. Local food includes gougères, snails and bread baked in the village, and there are games and a teaching farm for children.

History

The Fête de la Pressée was created in 1986 to celebrate the presses of the dukes of Burgundy, listed as historic monuments since 1934. It is organised by the town with the association of the Fête de la Pressée, and in 2016 it celebrated its 30th edition. The presses, with those of the Clos de Vougeot, are the largest and oldest in the region.

Tips for the day

Entry has been free. The fête fills the lanes of the old village, so arriving with a private driver saves looking for a parking space. The Heritage Days weekend also opens other sites in Dijon and along the Côte, so it is easy to build a full day around it.
