History
The château was built in 1990 by the Boisseaux family of Beaune, owners of the Patriarche wine house and of the Château de Meursault. They had bought many vineyards in Marsannay and elsewhere in the Côte de Nuits, and they needed a place to make and age the wines. The new building included a modern vat room, vaulted cellars and a large reception hall.
In 2012 the Boisseaux family sold the estate to Olivier Halley, who also owns the Château de Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, and a programme of investment in the vineyards and cellar followed. The estate completed its conversion to organic farming in 2021. It also farms the vineyards of the Hospices de Dijon, in both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.
Architecture
The château was designed to look like an old Burgundian estate, but it is a purpose-built winery. Behind the façade are a modern vat room and vaulted cellars with space for about 500 barrels. About 40 hectares of vines are farmed from here, including plots in Chambertin, Ruchottes-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echezeaux, and more than 40 climats are made separately.
