About the place
L'Imaginarium is a modern wine centre on the edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, created by the Boisset family of wine houses. It sets out to explain vines and wine in a light-hearted way, for adults and children alike. The heart of the visit is a sound-and-light show about the vine, followed by a guided tasting of Burgundy wines.
What you will see
You start with the show, about 40 minutes long, seated in the dark as the story of the vine unfolds around you. Then a guide leads a tasting. Depending on the formula, you taste three wines, or five wines ranging from Crémant and a regional wine to village wines and a premier cru. Before leaving, browse the shop or stroll by the ponds, where koi carp swim among water lilies and lotus.
History
Maison Boisset opened L'Imaginarium on 28 April 2006. At first the site was devoted to sparkling wine, and it presented Crémant de Bourgogne and other sparkling wines through interactive rooms, films and tastings. Over the years the focus widened to Burgundy wine as a whole. Today the visit centres on a show called Sacrée Vigne, which tells the long story of people and the vine.
Sacrée Vigne takes place in the dark. Voices with Burgundian accents, screens and old tools that seem to come to life explain the work of the vineyard, winemaking, barrel-making and local history. The tools are those once used by Burgundy growers. The site also has a shop of about 250 square metres, with wines and Crémants de Bourgogne, and a water garden of about a hectare.
Planning your visit
Tips for your visit
Booking is required. Building works are under way on the site, so L'Imaginarium asks all visitors to phone before coming. The full visit with a five-wine tasting lasts about 1 hour 45 minutes. The site is on avenue du Jura, on the edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, a few minutes from the Cassissium, so the two pair well in one morning. The show is offered in French, English, German, Chinese and Japanese. Check the official website for opening times.
