What you will see
A tasting takes you down into the old stone cellars, where old bottles line the vaults and a barrel room holds Burgundy casks. The Découverte tasting pours two regional wines, two villages and a premier cru. The Prestige tasting covers five wines, including two white and two red premiers crus, to show what makes each climat of the great appellations different.
History
Nearly four centuries ago, the building housed the wine press of an old estate. The vaulted cellars beneath it date from the 17th century and run on under the village square of Vougeot. Around 1850 Augustin Grangier bought the old seigneurial estate and built an elegant master's house, known since as the Château de Vougeot.
Today the Grande Cave is the last witness of that estate in the village. It sells and pours wines from well-known Burgundy houses, among them Charles Viénot, Morin Père & Fils, Jean-Claude Boisset, Domaine de la Vougeraie, J. Moreau & Fils in Chablis and Louis Bouillot for Crémant de Bourgogne. Its advisers help with purchases and ship orders in France and abroad.
