About the event
Every spring the students of the Arts et Métiers engineering school in Cluny transform the abbey into a series of themed rooms for one night of concerts, fashion shows and fireworks. It is open to anyone with a ticket and a dinner jacket.
What to expect
Guests move through around fifteen rooms of the abbey, each decorated to its own theme, with live music, fashion shows, a car display and a fireworks display over Cluny. A gastronomic dinner in the abbey's farinier can be booked beforehand.
History
The first- and second-year students have organised the Grand Gala every year since 1935, and the 2026 night was the 89th edition. It describes itself as the largest civil gala in France.

Tips for the day
Dress code is strict: dark suit, dress shoes and bow tie for men, long evening dress for women. Entry was 50 euros in 2026, or 250 euros with dinner. Doors are open from 7.30pm to midnight and the evening runs late, so a driver waiting outside at the end is worth arranging well in advance.
