The town museum of Nuits-Saint-Georges occupies a former wine house in the centre. Its great vaulted cellars now hold finds from the Gallo-Roman site of Les Bolards and remarkable Merovingian objects. Upstairs, temporary exhibitions explore the heritage of the region. It is a calm and rewarding hour between tastings.
Downstairs, the vaulted cellars of the old wine house make a fine setting for Gallo-Roman pottery, glass vessels, carved stones and Merovingian finds. Upstairs, changing exhibitions present aspects of the region's heritage. In season the museum also runs guided visits to the Les Bolards archaeological site, which cannot be visited otherwise. The museum is small, and it stands a short walk from the belfry and the shops. In 2026 the exhibition upstairs, De l'hospice à l'hôpital, traces 300 years of hospital life in Nuits, from the town's first leper houses to the Hôpital Saint-Laurent, its nursing sisters and its apothecary, and covers the hospital's finances and its famous wine sale. It ends with the apothecary's challenge, a game in which you identify the ingredients of the old laboratory. Downstairs, audio tours that play on your own phone tell the stories behind the objects.
The museum was created in 1975 and holds the Musée de France label. Much of its collection comes from Les Bolards, a Gallo-Roman settlement near Nuits-Saint-Georges. The displays include Gallo-Roman pottery and glass, and funerary stelae from the necropolis of Les Bolards. The finds show that people lived, worked and traded here in Roman times. Later discoveries include Merovingian objects from the early Middle Ages, also displayed in the cellars.

Entry is free, and the museum opens from May to the end of October. Guided visits, also free, last about an hour and must be booked: they cover the exhibition, the archaeology collections and, on a handful of dates each season, the Les Bolards site on the route de Quincey, which moves indoors to the archaeology rooms in bad weather. During the school holidays, 90-minute workshops for children aged 6 to 12 cost €5. The building is on rue Camille-Rodier in the town centre, easy to combine with a walk past the belfry.
