About the event

Starting and finishing in Givry, this festive marathon loops through Mercurey, Rully and the other villages of the Côte Chalonnaise. Fancy dress is encouraged, and the refreshment points serve Burgundy specialities alongside water.

What to expect

The marathon route runs from Givry through Jambles, Barizey, Saint-Jean-de-Vaux, Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu, Mercurey, Fontaines, Rully, Mellecey and Dracy-le-Fort before returning to Givry, mostly on quiet roads with a quarter on vineyard tracks. Along the way are 15 festive refreshment stops, and every finisher receives a medal and a bottle of Côte Chalonnaise. Estates across the area open their cellars to runners and supporters over the weekend.

History

A group of sport-loving volunteers founded the organising association in Givry in 2015, and the first marathon was run in 2017. It has grown into a weekend of races for all levels, from the full marathon to a relay, shorter runs, a children's race and a walk.

The event carries the Vignobles et Découvertes wine-tourism label. The course crosses 17 villages, and some 800 volunteers help run the weekend.

Tips for the day

Registration is online only, with no entries on the day, and numbers are capped. Supporters can watch for free from the villages on the route. Roads close on race morning, so a driver who knows the diversions can place supporters at two or three points on the course and collect tired runners at the finish.
