About the place

Olivier LeflaiveOlivier LeflaiveOlivier LeflaiveOlivier Leflaive

Olivier Leflaive is a wine house in Puligny-Montrachet, one of the great white wine villages of Burgundy. Olivier Leflaive founded it in 1984, and it now harvests about 100 hectares of vines. On the place du Monument, its sommeliers pour the wines for visitors, and the house also offers walks in the vines and visits of its cellars.

What you will see

Tastings take place at the house's bar on the place du Monument, led by a sommelier. Three wines cost €35 per person and seven wines €95, and you can add a board of charcuterie and cheese. A sommelier also leads a walk through the vines from Tuesday to Saturday at 9:30 (€35), explaining the climats, the soils and the work of the grower. On Friday and Saturday at 11:00, a cellar visit (€20, without tasting) shows where the grands crus age in barrel.

History

The Leflaive family has made wine in Puligny-Montrachet for generations, and the house counts Olivier as the 18th. In 1984 he set up his own business to make and age wines, buying grapes as well as growing them. His brother Patrick joined him, and later his daughter Julie, to whom he handed over in 2020.

The house harvests about 100 hectares of vines, 26 of them its own, spread over 82 climats. They include the grands crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet. The grapes are picked by hand and the wines aged in oak barrels. The house was also among the pioneers of wine tourism in Burgundy: its tasting table drew visitors to Puligny years before it opened a hotel on the same square.
