Maison Chanzy has its roots in Bouzeron, a small village of the Côte Chalonnaise known for its white wines from aligoté. It farms some 66 hectares across the Côte Chalonnaise, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, from Mercurey to Puligny-Montrachet and Vosne-Romanée. Visitors taste either in Bouzeron, where the estate's historic cellars can be visited, or at the Maison Chanzy in Puligny-Montrachet.
In Bouzeron, the team shows visitors the historic cellars, the vat room and the working estate before a tasting of wines such as Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey premier cru and Puligny-Montrachet. In Puligny-Montrachet, the Maison Chanzy occupies a former home of Vincent Leflaive: a tasting cellar and wine bar under 16th-century vaults of white Burgundy stone, opening onto a terrace and a garden that face the slopes of the Montrachet. Tables can be booked there, and private tastings with food and wine pairings are arranged on request.
The story began in 1928, when Joseph Sordet created the Domaine du Verger d'Exemple in Bouzeron, in a house with a fine 16th-century vaulted cellar; besides his vines, he taught fruit-tree growing and grafting to the farmers and growers of the Côte Chalonnaise. Lucien Juif bought the estate in 1952, then 12 hectares of aligoté, and in 1966 it passed to Jean Beudet, a notary from Chagny, who enlarged it to 18 hectares.
It took the name Domaine Chanzy in 1974, when Daniel and Catherine Chanzy bought it and took the vineyard to 37 hectares. Today the estate belongs to OLMA, an investment company co-led by Stéphane Petrossian and Philippe Der Megreditchian. It owns 80 hectares, 66 of them planted, with four monopoles and five clos, among them the Clos de la Fortune, the only monopole of the Bouzeron appellation, and it is certified High Environmental Value.

The Bouzeron cellar, on the rue de la Fontaine, opens from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00. The Puligny-Montrachet house is at 1 rue du Pot de Fer, on the Route des Grands Crus; book a table or contact the team before you go. Bouzeron is a few minutes from Chagny and Rully, while Puligny lies on the way between Beaune and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Did you know? Before it was a wine estate, the Bouzeron property was a model orchard, the Verger d'Exemple, where its founder taught the region's farmers to graft fruit trees.
