About the event

The Mois des Climats is an annual festival celebrating the Climats of the Burgundy vineyard, the UNESCO World Heritage site that stretches from Dijon to the south of Beaune. For several weeks, estates, guides and associations offer tastings, walks, cellar visits, talks and concerts, many of them free or at reduced prices.

What to expect

Growers and wine houses design special tastings, and guides lead walks through the Climats and underground visits of historic cellars in Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin. Talks and exhibitions reveal archives and the history of the vineyard, and there are treasure hunts in the vines, concerts and shows.

History

The Climats of the Burgundy vineyard, the precisely named plots of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015. The Association des Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, which looks after the site, runs the festival; in 2016 it offered more than 60 events between 10 June and 10 July.

Tips for the day

Events range from free to about 25 euros, and many need booking; the full programme is published on the association's website in spring. Events are spread along the whole Côte, so a driver lets you combine a morning walk in one village with an afternoon tasting in another.
