About the place
This signed walking loop leaves from the Parc de la Bouzaize and climbs gently into the vineyards south of Beaune. Over about six kilometres it passes stone walls, named clos and a dry-stone hut, with views across to Pommard and Meursault. It is rated very easy and suits families.
What you will see
From the park, the path follows the chemin des Teurons, skirts the Clos de la Mousse and climbs among the vines to a ridge with benches and a table. On the way down, the view opens over Pommard and its vineyard, with the church of Meursault and the hills of the Côte Chalonnaise beyond. You pass the track down to the Clos des Mouches and a fine circular dry-stone hut before looping back. The tourist office measures the loop at 6.1 kilometres, between a low point of 217 metres and a high point of 311 metres, and lists among its highlights the views over Beaune and the Côte de Beaune and the cabottes, the winegrowers' stone huts. At the start, the Parc de la Bouzaize is a romantic English-style garden laid out in the 19th century around the source of the Bouzaize and a listed site since 1949, with two giant sequoias near the aviary and rowing boats whose tickets are sold at the refreshment kiosk, open from spring through summer.
History
The loop is one of the signed Pays Beaunois walks, part of a network of about 500 kilometres of marked paths around Beaune. It crosses the premier cru vineyards of the Beaune appellation, which belong to the Climats of Burgundy, listed by UNESCO in 2015. These climats are small, precisely named plots, such as the Clos de la Mousse and the Clos des Mouches, each with its own soil and exposure.
Planning your visit
Tips for your visit
Allow about two hours at a relaxed pace. The loop is waymarked in yellow and climbs about 115 metres. There is little shade, so avoid the hottest hours in summer, and take care during the hunting season from September to February. Wear good shoes and carry water. The start is signposted from the ring road around the old town, with parking at the park. The walk is free, and the tourist office website offers the detailed route, a GPX track and leaflets in English and German.
