You can taste wine in Beaune on a Sunday: the Marché aux Vins, Maison Patriarche Père et Fils and Bouchard Aîné & Fils open every day, as do the Château de Pommard and the Château de Meursault, which from mid-November opens on Sundays in the morning only, while Maison Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Chanson and most family domaines close. Monday is easier: the large houses reopen, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Beaune closes on Tuesday, not Monday. Several houses change their days in winter, so check before you go.
In short
- Open every day in Beaune: the Marché aux Vins, from €25 for five wines, Maison Patriarche Père et Fils, €25 for six, Bouchard Aîné & Fils and the Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne.
- Closed on Sundays: Maison Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Chanson and most family domaines in the villages.
- The Château de Pommard and the Château du Clos de Vougeot open every day; the Château de Meursault does too until mid-November, then closes on Sunday afternoons, Mondays and Tuesdays until March.
- The Hôtel-Dieu opens every day in 2026, but Beaune's markets are on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, not on Sunday.
Which Beaune wine houses are open on a Sunday?
Four houses in and around the old town receive visitors seven days a week, and two of the best known close on Sundays.
The Marché aux Vins, opposite the Hôtel-Dieu, runs self-guided tastings in the former Cordeliers church every day, with departures from 10.00 to 11.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00; its 2026 formulas start at €25 online for five wines. Maison Patriarche Père et Fils opens its cellars every day from 9.30 to 11.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00, at €25 for six wines. Bouchard Aîné & Fils opens every day and runs its guided Parcours des 5 Sens by appointment, at 10.30, 11.30, 14.30, 16.00 and 17.00. The Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne opens every day from 10.00 to 18.00 until 31 December 2026, and its €14.50 visitor trail ends with a glass.
Maison Joseph Drouhin receives visitors from Monday to Saturday, 9.30 to 18.00, and Domaine Chanson from Monday to Saturday by reservation only: both close on Sundays.

Can you taste without booking on a Sunday?
Yes, in a few places: the Marché aux Vins needs no booking for its self-guided tasting, Maison Patriarche Père et Fils keeps walk-in departures when there is room, and the Château de Meursault offers tastings without an appointment.
Patriarche's walk-in departures leave at 9.45, 10.15 and 10.45, then every half hour from 14.15 to 16.45, for up to 10 people each. The Château de Meursault, 9 km south of Beaune, pours walk-in tastings every day from 10.00 to 11.30 and from 14.00 to 17.00, from €35, subject to availability, though only in the morning on Sundays from mid-November to March. Family domaines are another matter: most receive visitors by appointment and many close on Sundays and public holidays, so a Sunday is the day for the larger houses, as our guide to how tastings work in Burgundy explains.
Which village châteaux receive visitors on Sundays?
The châteaux of the Côte de Beaune and the Château du Clos de Vougeot are the Sunday options in the villages, each with its own seasonal hours, so check before you go.
- Château de Pommard: open every day from 10.30 to 18.30, last tasting at 17.00, every tasting by reservation; closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January.
- Château de Meursault: open every day, from 10.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 18.00 between October and April, except from mid-November to March, when it closes on Sunday afternoons, Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Château du Clos de Vougeot: open every day, from 9.30 to 18.00 until 31 October and from 10.00 to 17.00 from 1 November to 31 March, with guided tours in English at 11.30 and 15.30 by reservation, €15.
- Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune: open every day from 9.00 to 18.30 from late March to late October, then from Thursday to Monday, 10.00 to 17.30, so it stays open on Sundays and Mondays in winter; one €14 ticket covers the castle, the cellars and the collections, and the estate's wines are poured in its tasting pavilion. It closes on 25 December, 1 January and for part of January.
- Most family domaines: closed on Sundays, and some on Mondays too; ask when you book.
What closes on a Monday?
Less than you might expect: Beaune's large houses, Maison Joseph Drouhin and Domaine Chanson included, open on Mondays, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Beaune closes on Tuesday instead.
The museum, reopened in September 2026 in the Porte Marie de Bourgogne, opens every day except Tuesday, from 10.00 to 13.00 and 14.00 to 18.00. The Monday exceptions are seasonal or local: the Château de Meursault closes on Mondays and Tuesdays from mid-November to March, there is no market in Beaune on a Monday, and Monday dinner needs more planning: the town's two starred restaurants both close, as the next section shows.
Is the Hôtel-Dieu open on Sunday, and is there a market?
The Hôtel-Dieu des Hospices Civils de Beaune opens every day of 2026, Sundays and Mondays included, but Beaune has no Sunday market.
Until 15 November 2026 the Hôtel-Dieu is open from 9.00 to 19.30; from 16 November it opens from 9.00 to 12.30 and 14.00 to 18.30, and on 25 December only in the afternoon. The ticket office closes an hour before the site. The Marché de Beaune takes place on Saturday from early morning until 13.00, with a smaller food market of about 25 traders on Wednesday from 7.00 to 12.30, so for a Sunday picnic, shop on Saturday.
Where can you eat on a Sunday evening or a Monday?
Book ahead and look just outside town: on a Monday neither Le Carmin nor Clos du Cèdre, Beaune's two starred restaurants, opens, while Table de Levernois and Le Charlemagne in Pernand-Vergelesses serve dinner.
The days below are those the restaurants publish in October 2026; they change with the seasons, so check before you book. Each restaurant page gives the price of a return trip with a driver, so nobody has to drive after dinner.
| Restaurant | Sunday | Monday | Weekly closing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Le Carmin, Beaune | Closed | Closed | Sunday, Monday and Tuesday lunch |
| Clos du Cèdre, Beaune | Lunch and dinner | Closed | Monday and Tuesday; no lunch on weekdays |
| Table de Levernois, Levernois | Lunch and dinner | Dinner | Tuesday and Wednesday from September to June |
| Le Charlemagne, Pernand-Vergelesses | Lunch and dinner | Dinner | Tuesday and Wednesday |
How do you get around on a Sunday without a car?
With some planning: public transport thins out on Sundays and taxis are scarce, so book your car before the weekend.
- Mobigo coach 113, which links Beaune, the Côte de Nuits villages and Dijon, runs twice each way on Sundays on the timetable valid from 1 September 2026: from Beaune station at 10.30 and 16.45, from Dijon-Ville at 11.40 and 17.40. On public holidays only these Sunday services run, and none on 1 May.
- TER trains still stop at Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Meursault, but the gap between two trains can stretch to two hours on Sundays and public holidays, as our guide to the wineries without a car explains.
- Beaune's few taxis are often busy on Sunday evenings, and Uber drivers are rare around the town, so neither is a plan for a day of tastings.
- A private driver is booked in advance like every ride: €75 per hour per car for up to four guests, with a 3-hour minimum, or a wine day at a fixed price.
Which Sundays bring open cellars and wine festivals?
Autumn is the season: from October 2026 to January 2027, several town and village festivals fall on a Sunday and open cellars that are usually closed.
Each has its own page with the practical details: the Pains Vins Fromages tasting fair, the Fête du Vin Bourru, Coup d'œil, Coup de cœur, the Hospices de Beaune wine auction and the Saint-Vincent Tournante.
| Date | Event | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday 11 October 2026 | Salon de dégustation Pains Vins Fromages, Beaune | Growers' wines with cheese and bread under the market halls, 10.00 to 19.00, €14 |
| Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026 | Fête du Vin Bourru, Nuits-Saint-Georges | The new vintage, still fermenting, poured under the market halls; tasting glass €5 |
| Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October 2026 | Coup d'œil, Coup de cœur, Auxey-Duresses | The village's cellars open from 10.00 to 18.00; tasting glass €8 |
| Sunday 1 November 2026 | All Saints' Day, a public holiday | Many family domaines closed; the large houses in Beaune open |
| Sunday 15 November 2026 | Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune | The 166th auction at 14.30 under the market halls, and a full town all weekend |
| Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January 2027 | Saint-Vincent Tournante, Volnay | Growers' processions and open cellars; entry with a tasting kit bought in advance |
How do you plan a Sunday wine day with a driver?
Spend the morning in the villages, when walk-in tastings are easiest, and the afternoon on foot in Beaune, where the Hôtel-Dieu and the Marché aux Vins stay open.
We suggest the domaines and book the tastings for you, which matters on a Sunday, when few estates take visitors without notice; tastings are paid directly to each house.
- 9.30Pickup at your hotel in Beaune.
- 10.00Château de Meursault, 9 km south, for a tasting without an appointment before 11.30.
- 11.15Château de Pommard, booked ahead, for a tasting of about an hour.
- 12.30Drop-off for Sunday lunch at Clos du Cèdre in Beaune, booked ahead; this ends a 4-hour half day, €290 per car for up to four guests.
- 14.30The Hôtel-Dieu on foot, then a self-guided tasting at the Marché aux Vins opposite, before the last departure at 17.00.
For a full day of 8 hours, €560 per car for up to four guests, keep the car and add the Côte de Nuits in the afternoon: the Château du Clos de Vougeot is open until 18.00 in October and until 17.00 from November.
